I know runs Outlook on a Mac or Macbook, most having switched from PC in the last year or two. As of OS X 10.9 Mavericks, Sync Services is no longer available and this approach will not work any longer. Given that what must be a sizeable portion of the market wishes to use Microsoft Outlook software, many with (or Google I believe) mail accounts, AND to have the benefit of the shiny Apple hardware, why is nothing being done about it? However, with OS X Snow Leopard or an earlier version of the operating system, you can turn on Sync Services, and then try syncing your Outlook calendar. Informant Sync For Outlook is for Outlook on a Windows PC only and cannot be used with Outlook on the mac. Closed systems? Not really sure, or interested.
